Bound states in continuum
WebDec 22, 2024 · We consider optical bound states in the continuum (BICs) in periodic arrays of dielectric rods. The full classification of BICs in the above system is provided, including the modes propagating along the axes of the rods and bidirectional BICs propagating both along the axes of the rods and the axis of periodicity. WebIn summary, if the energy is less than the potential at − ∞ and + ∞, then it is a bound state, and the spectrum will be discrete: Ψ ( x, t) = ∑ n c n Ψ n ( x, t). Otherwise (if the energy is greater than the potential at − ∞ or + ∞ ), it is a scattering state, and the spectrum will be continuous: Ψ ( x, t) = ∫ d k c ( k) Ψ k ( x, t).

WebNov 3, 2024 · The introduction of bound states in the continuum (BICs) to photonics has revolutionized the way cavity design and light–matter interactions are thought about in general. BICs can have very high … WebMay 24, 2024 · Aiming to diminish leakage of radiation to the surroundings, several research groups [27-29] theoretically proposed near-zero index photonic crystals that could exhibit special resonances named bound states in the continuum (BICs). [30, 31] Two classes of BICs may be explored in a system.
WebBound states in the continuum (BICs) are phenomena that have been predicted to exist since 1929. BICs are waves that remain perfectly confined, or bound, in an open system. Conventional waves in an open system escape, but BICs defy this norm — they stay localized and do not escape despite having open pathways to do so. WebDec 1, 2024 · In this review paper, we present a comprehensive description of bound states in the continuum and related effects, focusing mainly on photonic dielectric structures. We review the history of...

Web1 day ago · Optical bound states in the continuum (BICs) have enabled suppression of radiation loss in various photonic structures. However, their quality ( ) factors can be limited by the intrinsic absorption loss, if present. We propose a type of BICs in which both the radiation and absorption losses are suppressed. The underlying mechanism is based on ...
